Hot-Wire Laser-Directed Energy Deposition: Process Characteristics and Benefits of Resistive Pre-Heating of the Feedstock Wire

This study investigates the influence of resistive pre-heating feedstock wire (here called hot-wire) on stability laser-directed energy deposition Duplex stainless steel. Data acquired online during depositions as well metallographic investigations revealed process characteristic and its window. The data, such electrical signals in circuit images captured from side-view interaction zone gave insight metal transfer between molten melt pool. results show that characteristics process, like laser-wire wire-melt pool interaction, vary depending level pre-heating. In addition, application two independent sources, laser beam power, allows fine-tuning heat input increases penetration depth, with little height width beads. for better elimination lack fusion defects. Electrical measured hot-wire indicate can be used in-process monitoring. conclusion is gives additional means controlling deposition.
